Food menus are the conventional way to advertise for a restaurant. Our restaurant goes through about 500 menus a day from our takeout and pickup. We would even have customers calling our restaurant and asking for us to fax our menus to their business. When we got online ordering, we cut down dramatically on printing out the menu. Now we tell out customers to just go directly to our website for the latest special. It has saved us from having to honor dated specials and coupons on our menu that were printed last year and no longer valid.

We have also found that food menus are almost always more appealing when they are in color! We got a professional firm to take digital pictures of our platters and transferred the high quality pictures to our menus. Our online ordering company even allowed us to upload our digital pictures into our website and they placed over 100 pictures online for our customers to see.

Our most effective way to use our food menus for dual purposes has been flyering. We recruited a few college kids from the local campus and have them hand deliver hundreds of our flyers to the local businesses, hospitals, and schools. It doesn’t cost us much since these kids are in college and would do it for an occasional free lunch! We added our online ordering website address and have seen a lot of activity on our website. It is the best form of marketing I think because our customers are hand delivered our menus and the students that we use to delivery the menus always ask the person to go to our website while they are there and save it as a favorite place.

Thanks to online ordering and putting our menu online, we now can print less food menus and it has saved us money. We decided to put that money back into the business by getting the professional photography to snap digital pictures of our food platters and put the images on our new colorful menus and our online ordering website.
