We were contacted by many different companies to have our menus online. I have finally realized that having my menu online was one thing, but to allow the opportunity for my customers to order once they get there is saving me a lot of time answering the phone. We have 4 incoming phone lines and on Fridays or during my peak hours it is crisis management trying to write down orders and answer phones.
I pay about 8 different companies that list my menu online in some way shape or form. I discovered a really good secret to getting them to make the changes to all 8 menus for free for me. I told them that if they didn’t keep track of the changes that my online ordering company was making to my online ordering site, that I would can them. Now instead of having to call 9 places to make a menu change, I call my online ordering website and they just change my menu. All the other 8 companies follow suit and it costs me nothing.
Having my menus online has made me money!
I remember from my college days many years ago that customers are prone to spending more money when using credit cards then with cash. I wondered if the same was true for online ordering. I did a little test to see if it would increase my sales it has definitely has. I have discovered that the college kids in my area seem to pay me with mom and dads credit cards. The online ordering website I have allows them to pay using these cards. I have kept track and my average order by phone is exactly $12.40. My average order online is $13.97.
Customers simply spend more money when they are ordering food from menus online for their whole office or their friends in their dorm room. They seem to spend more because they can physically see my updated menu and all the choices I have. My customers who order by phone seem to simply order the same old order every time and not look at my new items. Having my menus online has increased my profits and saved me time from answering phones.
