Now that we finally had real menus printed, we are focusing on having an online menu for customers to look over. Our biggest competitor up the road just started accepting orders from their online restaurant menu and three of our customers have already asked if we will have the same feature. We just say, “its coming soon,” but we don’t want to lose business in the meantime.
There are several ways to display a menu online but there are some important things to remember before committing to one way. Every online restaurant menu should be printer-friendly and should load in a matter of seconds, even on dial-up.
Online Restaurant Menus Are Just As Effective
We tried scanning in our menu to use as a downloadable file but it was too big to display at full-resolution and it was too illegible to display at low-resolution. What we needed was a way of dynamically entering our menu so that file-size is not an issue and so that we can easily change and update our menu.
By the time we had our real menus printed at the printers, we had already found a major typo and two of our specials have the same description under both entrees. This would be easy to correct had we done our online restaurant menu first. Now, everything is updated through our website, and our printer can get the text they need immediately.
